How To Reprogram Your Subconscious Mind

Up to 90%-95% of our life is being controlled by our subconscious mind. The most obvious part of that 90% is off course the biological functioning of our body. We do not consciously control our metabolism, heart rate, the filling of our bladder and dozens of other bodily functions, although it has been proven that several of these functions CAN be consciously controlled.

But the subconscious mind controls much more than that.

The way we think, act, react, walk, talk, what we like and dislike are all being controlled by our subconscious mind.

It has long been known that our subconscious mind is very much like a computer. Whatever that computer does, depends on how it has been programmed. And the programming of it, depends on the kind of data it has been fed.

For example: if a child is being raised in a family where the parents openly consume high amounts of alcohol, the child will most likely grow up doing the same thing.

The reason for it is simple. The more you witness something (feel, hear or see), the more your subconsciousness will consider it to be "normal" and therefore decide it is absolutely accepted to do the same.

This is of course a very clear and understandable example. However, most people don't realize that our subconscious mind does this with every imaginable aspect of our life.

The younger we are, the easier we will be influenced by such external factors, because our "hard disk" has not yet been filled with programs. The older we get, the more our subconsciousness is filled with these programs and the less likely we are to accept a new way of thinking and feeling.

Considering this, it would be a fairly accurate assessment to state that most part of our life and personality as adults is nothing more than the product of the environment we grew up in. And there in lies the danger!

As a child, we can not control the environment we grow up in. And yet, that environment controls (for the most part) how we will develop as human beings. Consequently, the quality of our life as adults is largely determined by the kind of environment we grew up in.

“Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality” — Earl Nightingale

How Does This ‘Old’ Programming Affect You Now?

How To Reprogram Your Subconscious Mind

Now that you’re an adult, you may think that you can simply discard the hurtful or untrue messages you absorbed during your early life,
but it’s not quite that simple.
Remember that all of this information is stored below your level of conscious awareness. The only time you become aware of it is when it limits your progress in creating a balanced, successful and productive life.
Have you ever tried to achieve a goal and kept sabotaging yourself at every turn? Maddening, isn’t it? It’s important to know that you’re not defective or doomed to fail no matter what you do.

More likely you’ve got some old programmed messages that conflict with the new conditions you want to create.
This is excellent news because it means,
you can achieve just about anything if you first take the time to reprogram your subconscious mind!

The Programming Is Still Going On

How To Reprogram Your Subconscious Mind

Before we discover how to reprogram your subconscious, it’s important to know that,
the programming still continues to this day.
With every experience you have, you draw certain conclusions and store the messages that will guide your future actions.
For example, what kind of message do you think would be stored if you were rejected by someone you cared about?
Your subconscious mind — that clever detective — would immediately go hunting through your memories and find other examples of rejection — like that time your best friend dumped you to hang out with the more popular kids — and draw a conclusion that you’re somehow unworthy or unlovable and deserve to be rejected.
Now, here’s the interesting thing,
if you have an experience that conflicts with an already established belief, your subconscious mind will either reject it or reframe it so it goes along with your existing view of reality.
Here’s an example,
let’s say you have an underlying belief that you’re unattractive, and an attractive person expresses an interest in getting to know you better.
Most likely the first thing you’re going to think is that it must be a joke or a cruel trick. You won’t believe that this person could find you attractive because you already believe that you’re unattractive.
Beneath the surface of your conscious awareness, your subconscious mind is screaming, “No way! This person is way too attractive to be interested in me, something isn’t right here…”
Then you’ll either reject that person before they can reject you, or otherwise do something to sabotage what could have been a great relationship.
The same thing happens when you struggle to achieve your goals. Eventually you start to believe that you aren’t capable of success, so you come to expect failure and end up doing just that over and over again.
You can probably imagine many other situations where your subconscious mind limits you, but reprogramming it is a simple matter if you know how.

Ways in Which to Reprogram Your Subconscious Mind

Below are a selection of strategies that you can implement to change your mind and your life:

1. Affirmations - These change the subconscious by making use of positive, personal, present-tense statements that override the embedded negative thinking patterns. When we repeat these affirmations we are able to forge new paths in your subconscious that provide it with novel attitudes.

Your subconscious then causes you to act in new ways that are in harmony with the new attitudes. For instance you could repeat something like: "I choose healthy food each mealtime." This can change your mind-set regarding what you consume and why.

2. Visualization - This involves the creation of mental pictures that show a preferred outcome in order for you to see success for yourself. They stimulate the subconscious which accepts them as real and then directs your behavior accordingly. Many successful athletes have used this method even during game-time.

3. Hypnosis - This is a form of therapy that works with subconscious mind and eases you into a state of utter relaxation. When you attain this level the conscious mind no longer holds sway and the subconscious is much easier to access.

When you are under hypnosis it is easier to reprogram the subconscious mind so that it accepts new thoughts as reality.

4. Subliminal Audios - These can even be used when you are sleeping. While the conscious mind listens to music or to a person talking on one level the subconscious picks up a different layer of info that is actually recorded beneath the audible portion.

When you are awake the conscious mind is distracted with the audible portion of the recording and therefore makes it more difficult to access the subconscious.

Methods and techniques such as those we have looked at are effective in helping to reprogram your subconscious mind and lessen or even remove the burden of negative thoughts that are hidden there. Just think of the life you can live free of the dysfunctional behaviors that you have been subject to for so long.

Transforming a negative outlook into a positive one means that you can achieve much more. Your mind will no longer be held captive by negative programming and you will be able to excel and succeed throughout your life.

  • Gamma when you’re engaged in certain motor functions
  • Beta when you’re fully conscious and actively concentrating
  • Alpha when you’re relaxed
  • Theta when you’re drowsy or lightly sleeping
  • Delta when you’re in deep sleep
These audio programs can help you reprogram your subconscious mind by,
creating a more receptive forum for installing positive messages.
Research has shown that your subconscious mind is more receptive to new information when you’re very relaxed, such as in the alpha or theta states.
